As part of a mandatory practicum program offered by the Bachelor in Public Health (BPH) curriculum of the Central Department of Public Health, Institute of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, I worked as an intern at Golden Community, one of Nepal’s leading research organizations focused on maternal and child health research. My four-month practicum was spent putting my academic knowledge into practice and acquiring new skills on research, training and other field-based activities. It was truly a great opportunity to have worked and collaborated with a diverse team of doctors, nurses, public health professionals and others in various qualitative and quantitative research work including systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Besides work, I learned the importance of team work, consistency and a good approach toward work. I am ever grateful to Golden Community for providing an ideal learning environment to me, and guiding thoroughly in my early career in public health research. Last but not the least, internship at Golden Community gave me a new perspective towards work, professionalism and career.
